is a Senior Researcher and Head of the Cluster ‚Contested Governance‘ at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) in Freiburg. Her current research focuses on the production of security and insecurity through transnational infrastructure masterplans, leading a project on infrastructural connections between North and Central America, and North Africa and Europe, and multi-scalar governance from a relational state theory perspective.
Alke holds a PhD in Sociology from Philipps University of Marburg (summa cum laude) and has published in journals such as Globalizations, International Studies Quarterly, Political Geography, and Latin American Research Review. Her book „Selective Security in the War on Drugs. The Coloniality of State Power in Colombia and Mexico“ will be out with Rowman & Littlefield in late 2022. In the Postcolonial Hierarchies network, she looks at how the scales and spatialities of urban protest are related to regional urban renewal plans and the global economy. She serves as the PI for the network’s Freiburg team.
